Taking a look at Suits and Swords (Review)

Suits and Swords combines Blackjack and RPGs into a fun mobile title.

Suits and Swords combines Blackjack and RPGs into a fun mobile title.

Have you ever wanted to see what it would be like to play a role-playing game utilizing Blackjack as the rules for damage? If so, you may be interested in Sony Pictures Television’s newest game, Suits and Swords.

This game, released on mobile devices, places you in control of Captain Black Jack. Your nemesis is the evil Joker, who has successfully taken the four card realms captive, and your goal is to reclaim said realms.

In order to do so, you will utilize equipment to grant you stat boosts (such as more HP or damage). As far as battling goes, you will play Blackjack and attempt to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. The split and double down rules are utilized to give you a chance at dealing extra damage to your foes as you adventure through the land.

As you travel through the realms, you will be able to utilize Magic cards, which can trim or add points to either your or your opponent’s hand, and Summoning cards, which can call forth faithful companions to assist you.

From what we’ve played (the game was released two days ago), it seems to be a decent blend of the two types of game, though we agree with our friends at Kotaku that it can, at times, have “an amateur Flash feel” to it. That said, the game is free-to-play, and you have the option of buying gold, which can be utilized to buy the best equipment in the game.

With a price like that, you certainly can’t go wrong with giving it a shot.
