Oxide releases tech demo showing off 10,000 units on-screen
Star Swarm tech demo shows over ten thousand units on screen at once.
Yesterday Oxide Games decided to release a rather impressive new technical demo that they called Star Swarm. This is not a game, but just a demo that shows off their Nitrous engine and what it could mean for the future of strategy games.
What makes the demo impressive is the fact that it shows over ten thousand units at once, and the battle shown is even taking place at an acceptable frame rate. Because this engine is capable of simulating and rendering such large-scale and complex scenes, it certainly opens doors for developers to create entirely new types of experiences in strategy games.
Will we be seeing this engine utilized in strategy games soon? If so, what kind of massive battles could these games employ in order to make the most of the functionality? What kind of strategy games would you like to see made on the engine?
