Kim announces his retirement.

Some will consider this a sad day for professional gaming (at least in the Starcraft II circuit), as one of the most popular players is retiring.

Kim Kyeong Deok made this announcement via his Twitter profile, stating simply, “I have decided to retire S2.” This announcement came as a bit of a shock to fans of the gamer, and Daily eSports talked to Kim about the announcement.

Kim’s response to the inquiries was, “”I was thinking about retiring after WCS Europe Season 2, but I ended up winning so the retirement was delayed. I am going to focus on my studies and obtain my GED.” When asked what he will do after that, he simply stated, “”I will plan my future.”

It appears that the gamer, who isn’t yet twenty, has decided to renew his focus on school. So though it may be a sad day for many Starcraft II pro fans, we would like to congratulate Kim on his decision and wish him the best of luck with his work.

Thanks, Kotaku.
