Instagram now lets you send private messages

Today, Instagram has announced “Instagram Direct”, which is a new way of sharing photos, videos and messages to specific people instead of everyone.

When launching the app, you’ll now see a new icon on the top right corner of the feed, which lets you see any media that has been sent to you specifically.  As for sharing, after taking a photo or video, you’ll see the option to either send to Followers or Direct and if you choose Direct, you’ll get to select which specific people you want to send it to.  After sending it out directly, you can see who’s seen the photo or video, see who’s liked it and of course who’s commented on it.

If you get a photo or video from someone you are not following, it will go to your requests, and it’s up to you if you want to view it or not.

The latest version of Instagram, which includes the new feature, is available to download right now for iOS in the App Store and for Android in the Google Play Store.
