Curt Schilling believes Amalur could still be a billion dollar franchise

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning supposedly needed 3 million units sold just to break even.

Curt Schilling, the all-star pitcher who founded 38 Studios, the company behind Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, posted a Tweet today stating that the franchise could indeed still be a “Billion dollar franchise” if somebody would just support it and add some polish.

Specifically, Schilling stated, “If someone were to buy Amalur, put team back on it, it’s a billion dollar franchise, 2 years later and still no ones done what we were doing.”

Some may wonder why the studio went under since Kingdoms was actually fairly well received. It turns out that the studio sank enough money into the game that (supposedly) they needed to sell a whopping 3 million units just to break even.

What do you think? Is Mr. Schilling correct about the Amalur franchise? Could it indeed be a “Billion dollar franchise” if somebody backed it and polished it a bit?

Thanks, Kotaku.
