Soldiers storm New York’s streets in order to celebrate Xbox One launch
Microsoft’s newest console launch caused fan excitement from New Zealand to Los Angeles to reach a fevered pitch.
In New Zealand, fans partied at Shed 10 as the iconic Sky Tower pulsed green. During this time, one fan made the very first official Xbox One purchase while in London, the console, for the first time ever, turned London’s home of entertainment into a home of gaming. Leicester Square was turned into the Xbox One Square with Plan B headlining a showcase event.
In New York, fans had to deal with zombies, Roman soldiers, and jaw-dropping supercars as they converged on Time Square. Billboards glowed green as Macklemore and Ryan Lewis helped 1,000 fans count down to midnight with a performance at Best Buy Theater. As this occurred, thousands more were celebrating in Times Square.
In Los Angeles, Hollywood’s biggest gamers walked the green carpet, mingling with fans who came out to try Xbox One games. In addition, deadmau5 provided music for the gamers to enjoy as other similar celebrations occurred in the other Xbox One launch markets.
Chief product officer, Mark Whitten, stated, “We have the best community of gamers around the world, and this was on full display last night. The launch of Xbox One is truly Day One. Today is the beginning of the future of entertainment, and we could not be more proud to deliver Xbox One to fans around the world.”
