While the PlayStation 4 had a few day-one robbers in the same city, the Xbox One manages to defeat that “achievement”. Microsoft’s next-generation console had fifty-eight units stolen one full week before launch in Memphis, Tennessee.
A 31-year-old Memphis man is facing charges of theft and filign a false report in relation to buying a stolen Xbox One, according to WMCT-TV. (via Kotaku) The issue with the report of buying the console is that it doesn’t launch until Friday, and thus he is believed to have bought one of the 58 consoles that were stolen on November 13.
Authorities state that a gray SUV and black pickup truck were spotted pulling away from a tractor trailer that was carrying the shipment, and the theft was discovered soon after. According to WMCT-TV, “Investigators believe Ingram is only one of many people who purchased the stolen Xbox One systems.”
Though the console only costs $499 at retail, the police report that the stolen goods were valued at $58,000. This could be a few things; Street value, more merchandise than just the consoles were stolen, but nor reported on, or the figure is just one that is fattening somebody’s insurance claim.
