New details about Warcraft movie revealed
Though many fans of the series have been looking forward to the upcoming Warcraft movie, we didn’t know very many details about it. At BlizzCon, several new details were revealed.
The upcoming movie will be an origin story, according to Duncan Jones, the director of the movie. It will explore the conflict from the perspective of both sides. Anduin Lother, who fans of the series may recall led the Alliance in Warcraft 2 will be the human hero, whole Durotan (Thrall’s father) will be the orcish hero.
Bill Westenhofer, the film’s visual effects director, stated that the team would be utilizing a mix of live-action and CG effects in order to create a “gritty, muddy, down in the dirt, covered in grime” feel that he compared to the movie Gladiator. Said Mr. Westenhofer, “The swords that are being built are the biggest swords that a human can wield.”
Though no actors were named, we also learned that Simon Duggan (The Great Gatsby and I, Robot) will be handling the cinematography and Mayes Rubeo (Avatar, Apocalypto) will be in charge of the costumes. In addition, Industrial Light & Magic (Star Wars, Pacific Rim) iwill be helping create the visual effects that we will see in the film.
The movie begins filming in Vancouver early 2014. There is also a liveblog of the Warcraft film panel over at WoW Insider if you wish to know more.
