Wii U hurting Nintendo profits
Even though the Wii U has shipped 300,000 units worldwide during the second quarter, the system still isn’t a hit for Nintendo.
The company noted that the “Wii U hardware still has a negative impact” on profits currently. Part of this has to do with the price cut the system has received in North America after lackluster first quarter sales.
The lifetime shipment of the console is up to 3.91 million units, which is almost matched by the 3DS, which sits at 3.89 million during the first six months of the fiscal year.
Overall, Nintendo’s net profit is $6.1 million, down from the $88 million the company posted for the first quarter. The company has an operating loss of $236 million, which was attributed to more advertising used to ramp up sales and development for software on the Wii U.
