Blizzard wins $7 million in lawsuit
World of Warcraft has been both a great and time consuming game. For players to farm without having to spend all day in front of the computer Ceiling Fan Software made two bot programs entitled Shadow Bot and Pocket Gnome that were playing the game by themselves letting the player relax and benefit from their work.
Blizzard has started a law suit against them in December 2011 and today finally managed to win in court, making the company pay $7 million in damages and cease any active operations.
“After more than two years of legal battles with Blizzard Entertainment to both pursue our right to operate and our customer’s right to play WoW as they choose, we did not prevail in the suit and have been ordered by the United States District Court in California to cease our operations,” a statement on the Ceiling Fan website read.
Ceiling Fan Software started a donation website for customers to help them to pay the legal fees.
