Mega Evolutions join the TCG in February.

Mega Evolutions won’t just be in the recently released Pokémon X and Y games. It will soon be joining the trading card game as well.

In the TCG, the Mega Pokémon will evolve from Pokémon-EX characters, which are already incredibly powerful. If players decide to go ahead and evolve these powerful EX Pokémon into their Mega forms, their turn will automatically end, meaning that they cannot attack at all that turn.

This mechanic, though simple, may end up changing the way players tend to build their decks, as they would have to balance the risk and reward offered by the new Mega Evolutions. It may even make the next Pokémon Championship more interesting overall.

Some of you may be thinking, “That’s all well and good, but when do they come out?” Well, the answer to that is February 5, 2014. They will appear in a new set of 10 card boosters that will be released during this time.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game Mega Evolutions?
