It’s been revealed that Square Enix intends to release their beloved Final Fantasy VI on both iOS and Android this winter.
FF VI gets phone port.
The game will be, says Square director and producer Takashi Tokita, “basically like a remake of the original VI. But there have been some enhancements.”
He goes on to explain what these enhancements are, stating, “The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VI will be the same. For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don’t have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is.”
Graphically, he explained that they have been refined for cellphones, keeping the 2D aspect, but sharpened like the recent mobile release of Final Fantasy V was.
Finally, upon being asked about the Legacy series and if it would end with Final Fantasy VI, Tokita stated that it may not. “We are aware that we have tons of VII fans,” he stated. “We have VII fans in our own company. If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII.”
Will we finally be seeing a FF VII remake? Or is he just needlessly getting our hopes up?
