Maxis team looking at SimCity offline

SimCity launched as a total disaster, being an always-online game with crashed servers on the day of launch. Well, after some time things got fixed and the game was actually playable, but not after the developer made some gamers really angry with the issues listed above.

Maxis, SimCity’s developer, revealed that they have a team exploring offline mode for the game. Patrick Buechner, general manager at Maxis Emeryville said that the following:

“Right now we have a team specifically focused on exploring the possibility of an offline mode,” Buechner wrote. “I can’t make any promises on when we will have more information, but we know this is something that many of our players have been asking for. While the server connectivity issues are behind us, we would like to give our players the ability to play even if they choose not to connect. An offline mode would have the additional benefit of providing room to the modding community to experiment without interfering or breaking the multiplayer experience.”

So they actually made a good decision. We don’t know when it will happen, but we can expect that in the near future we will be playing SimCity in an offline environment without any servers issues. Hooray!
