Several gamers enjoyed the Marvel Trading Card Game that hit the PSP back in 2007. Others enjoyed the Puzzle Quest series that launched that same year. Now, a brand new game aims to combine the two concepts and draw in both fan groups.

This game, called Marvel Puzzle Quest, is free-to-play, and takes on an episodic form. The developers have promised frequent updates, and the game’s storyline follows the events of the Dark Reign Marvel crossove event, which occured in 2008 and 2009.

This setting, for those unaware, followed Nomran Osborne (the Green Goblin) as he seized power following the aftermath of two other events, namely the Secret Invasion and Civil War events that had occured in the Marvel universe in the past.

Unfortunately, though it does appear that you can unlock the entire roster (or at least most of the roster) by besting them in puzzle combat, the shadow of the dreaded “pay-to-win” spectre looms over the game, as players can pay to either get a random chance for a rare character or to upgrade the ones they alreadyown.

What are your thoughts on this new title?

Thanks, Kotaku.
