It’s official, the Steam Box exists.
Valve revealed the Steam Machines today, which will hit in 2014. The machines are being made by a variety of manufacturers, but will all run SteamOS.
“Entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all world,” Valve writes. “We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you, so we are working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS.”
In addition, 300 prototype Steam Machines will be given to testers as part of a beta program. To be eligible, Steam users need to join the Steam Universe group and agree to the terms, as well as have 10 Steam friends, make a public profile and play a game in Big Picture mode. The list locks on Oct. 25.
