In their restless effort of bringing Steam in your living-room, Valve has designed a new operating system entitled SteamOS. Apparently, the new OS combines “the rock-solid architecture of Linux with they gaming experience build for the big screen”.
The main feature of the OS is that everything will be possible through cloud streaming to any living-room device.
“In SteamOS, we have achieved significant performance increases in graphics processing, and we’re now targeting audio performance and reductions in input latency at the operating system level. Game developers are already taking advantage of these gains as they target SteamOS for their new releases.”
The OS will not be designed only for games, Valve is currently working with several media content providers for music, TV and movies to bring streamed content on SteamOS.
They have confirmed that hundreds of games will be supporting SteamOS natively by 2014. More details are to be revealed in 48 hours from now so stay tuned for a big new announcement.
Will the new OS live to the standards of current ones or it will be a total failure from day one? This remains to be seen.
