Company shows off Final Fantasy VI movie trailer in attempt to get rights from Square.
Recently a fan of Final Fantasy VI decided to show off a trailer for a fan-made film.
The trailer is for a film based on the game that the creators intend to attempt to get Square Enix’s approval on. Before you get your hopes up, however, it should be noted that a similar Kickstarter for Final Fantasy VII was quickly shut down by Square’s lawyers, and the team behind that project could not gain the permission needed to make the movie a reality from the company.
Speaking with Kotaku, Pohl, the man who runs the production company attempting to create this movie, has stated, “Getting their blessing is a Hail Mary, I know, but I’m too ambitious not to try. And besides, making the trailer was an amazing experience.”
“So what happens if you don’t get their blessing?” the Kotaku reporter asked.
Mr. Pohl answered, “That’s a great question. I’m honestly not sure. We could continue to go it alone and invest in it ourselves, like we did the trailer. But we finished that yesterday and I’m still decompressing from that experience. If there was a way to do it both cheap and good, then maybe. Ideally, the trailer would show Square Enix that we can be trusted to make a quality, high-concept production. That the high-end visuals that FFVI deserves are within our reach.”
He finished his answer by stating, “If all that ever happens is this trailer, then I’m happy. This was an absolute hoot to make. From the amazing costume designer, to the professional actors, I had the time of my life.”
Will Final Fantasy VI receive this movie? Or will Square Enix refuse to allow the company to obtain the rights needed to make it into a reality?
