Good news TimeSplitters fans! TimeSplitters Rewind is currently being developed on PlayStation 4, according to CinemaBlend.
The news was announced back in April that the collection of weapons, maps and characters was being developed by a group of part-time developers. Back then it was originally planned just as a free-to-play PC game but the team seem to have set their sights higher. The news doesn’t necessarily mean that the game will even come out on the PS4 but Michael Hubicka, the project lead, said that he did not want to wait for the go ahead before starting work on the project saying, “We’re actually going to go ahead and start development on PlayStation 4. Just because we’re pretty confident Crytek’s going to say go ahead and do it. But we don’t want them saying go ahead and do it when we’re caught with our pants down and we’re like halfway through development and [then] start something for the PlayStation 4.”
One of the issues that may arise over a full release is that Crytek need to give permission before any retail game can go ahead. Hubicka said, “It’s mostly just us waiting on Crytek’s legal department to give us the go ahead. With these things it’s not like they say ‘Hey, we don’t know you but we’ll give you access to these things and you can release it on this or that console.’ It’s also their reputation on the line.”
Xbox One fans may have longer to wait however. With uncertainty surrounding the fees that may be charged for any patches to the game, the team haven’t even started to look at the possibility of developing for the console. Whatever happens with the PS4 version, the plans are to release a playable Alpha this holiday season, with the parts being released as they become playable.
