Square Enix to localize Diablo III (PS3) for Japan.

As you may have noticed when we covered Square’s TGS website opening, the company intends to localize Diablo III for Japan gamers. The catch? The only version that will be available is the PlayStation 3 version.

This may be a bit of surprise for Western gamers, who may simply know the company as a creator of games. They do, however, have a second name in Japan. This name is Extreme Edges, and they focus on localizing Western games so that Japanese gamers can enjoy them.

They mostly localize Activision titles, however they have recently announced that they will be tackling the console version of Diablo III. They will fully localize the game for Japan, and intend to release it in 2014.

This will give Diablo III the honor of being the only RPG (aside from Square’s internally developed RPGS, that is) that will be publised under Square’s Extreme Edges label.

How will Japanese gamers take to the localized Diablo III?

Thanks, Siliconera!
