Keiji Inafune Announces Mega Man Inspired Mighty No. 9 For Kickstarter
Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune has come up with a brilliant new idea for a game. Eight robots originally planned for industrial purposes have contracted a virus that has caused them to go rogue and attack humanity. Now it’s up to a ninth robot Rock… errr… Mega M…. errr…. Mighty No. 9 to defeat his former comrades. To defeat the other 8 robots, Mighty No. 9 will use abilities from fallen enemies to power himself up. Hmmm… this all seems very familiar.
Mighty No. 9 is a Mega Man game in all but it’s name, and the similarities are so unsubtle that I’m actually worried about Capcom dropping the legal hammer on this game. Naturally, as a Mega Man fan, I’m pretty excited about the project. Inafune has assembled a team of developers with experience in Mega Man games, and hopefully this spiritual successor can revive Mega Man in a way Capcom has been unable to do.
If the game hits its funding target of a whopping 900,000 dollars, it will be released through Steam for PC. If you’re hoping to play on a Wii U, PS3, or XBox 360, you’d better crack open that purse, because that will require 2.5 million dollars via a stretch goal. The game is off to a strong start with nearly $50,000 and 30 days to go, so if you’re a fan of Mega Man games, donate for everlasting peace!
