Nintendo must pay ex-Sony engineer $15 million for 3DS patent

Nintendo IPs won't go multi-platform anytime soon.
Seijiro Tomita the pantent owner for the technology that displays 3D images without the use of 3D glasses on Nintendo’s 3DS, filled a lawsuit against the firm back in March.

The jury decided in the favor of Tomita, but agreed that 3DS is not profitable and his evidence weren’t enough to pay him the full damages. The judge decided to give him half of the damages, worth $15m or the chance of losing them all.

“Nintendo respects the intellectual property rights of other companies and is confident that none of its products infringes the asserted patent,” Nintendo spokesperson Charlie Scibetta said in a statement.

“Nintendo will appeal the jury’s verdict and reduced damages award to the court of appeals.”

He will more than sure take the deal, but it’s terrible for Nintendo as the company already had an infernal year with great losses.
