Here’s something you don’t hear every day: Microsoft made a very smart, gamer-friendly business decision.
Announced Wednesday via the Xbox Wire, Microsoft announced that players who bought a season pass for downloadable content of an Xbox 360 game would automatically have that season pass transferred to Xbox One. According to their statement, Activision, EA, and Ubisoft have already all signed on board to the initiative.
The Season Pass Guarantee is Microsoft’s latest move to win back their alienated core base, promising that it would make transitioning between generations “an easier and smoother process, so you don’t have to worry about which console you’re playing games on or repurchasing your existing add-ons on Xbox One.”
What you would have to rebuy, however, is the game: players would need to own both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One version of the game to qualify for the Season Pass Guarantee.
