A few years ago I saw this film, Indie Game: The Movie, about 2 guys trying to launch and create this game called Fez. I am not even sure what the game Fez was about because I was so engrossed in wanting to slap this annoying “hipster” Phil Fish. For those of you who do not know, Fish is the creator of the popular indie game Fez and if you hear him tell it, the most revolutionary thing to happen to gaming since Mario convinced his brother Luigi to abandon their plumbing business. The truth of the matter is that Fish is nothing more than a pompous, egotistical cry baby who puts his partner through hell simply because the enigma of Fish and Fez is better than the game itself. Why would I simply dedicate any of my time to telling you how much of a douche Fish is? Simply because Fish could not man up and accept the criticism he received from another game magazine. He was so hurt by the writer simply asking him why there was such a difference between his behavior and his partners on Twitter that Fish simply decided he was going to take his proverbial ball and go home by canceling the sequel, Fez II.
Let me simply put it this way Phil Fish. You are not the only game maker/developer in the world. You are someone who was lucky once. There are a million other guys and girls coming up in the ranks of game development that will blow you away. You are not the savior of the gaming world no matter how much you and your fun loving Canadian Hipsters want to proclaim you to be. Stop surrounding yourself with yes men and find someone who is willing to tell you that you do not make games for your own ego, you make games for GAMERS. When someone states a fact you cannot simply start crying like a little girl with a scraped knee and decide to crash not only your reputation but the reputation of all of those who work on the Fez games.
You have taken money out of the pockets of your developers and all who are connected to this game simply because you proved Marcus Beer correct in his analysis of your childish behavior. Take your game and go home. Never come back and say you are sorry, and try to convince anyone to buy your Fez sequel. I for one will never give you a second chance for your childish game and I hope that anyone else who reads this agrees. If you have any issues feel free to tweet Mr. Fish at @PHIL_FISH on Twitter.
As for me I have more important things to do – Super Meat Boy calls me.
