Disney announces power discs in anticipation of ‘Infinity’ launch

Power Discs 1

With the launch of Disney Infinity just three weeks away, the team at Disney Interactive are serving up some chips. No dip necessary.

The chips, or “ power discs” as they’re referred to, are add-ons to placed on the Infinity Base to add powers, weapons, or vehicles to the Toy Box, the world-creator portion of Infinity. Discs come in two varieties: circular Power Discs unlock attributes that can be used in Toy Box or Play Set (in-universe) mode, including boosted attacks, health, or loot, while hexagonal Power Discs unlock vehicles and items to use in the Toy Box, such as Cinderella’s carriage, Stitch’s laser blaster, and Carl’s cane. Some hexagonal discs will also grant the player the ability to use special terrains and scenery in the Toy Box. With the right discs, players can make the landscape tastier by dressing it up a la “Sugar Rush” from Wreck-It Ralph or light up the nighttime sky with thousands of lanterns as seen in Tangled.

Designed with collectors in mind, some blind two-packs will include rare discs featuring rare methods of transportation including the Space Cruiser from Disneyland’s Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Dumbo the Flying Elephant (the attraction, not Dumbo himself), and Abu, as he appeared with “Prince Ali Ababwa” in elephant form in the animated film Aladdin.

The discs that will be available at launch are listed below, and will be available in blind two-packs for $4.99. Disney Infinity launches August 18 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and PC.
