Only shortly after being announced Fez II, the would be up and coming title from Polytron, has been cancelled. Phil Fish broke the news on his twitter account, saying that he was “done”. Polytron sent out a more congenial message, basically confirming the title’s death.
Fish has not been entirely clear about why the title has been cancelled. At first Fish would only say that a multitude of reasons were responsible, and that a recent twitter argument was not to blame. Fish added flatly: “im doing it to get out of games”. Fish is claiming “abuse” for his departure from games, as for what kind of abuse that is we don’t know.
Fish has been a hot topic in the industry. He claimed that Japanese titles sucked and more recently the twitter debacle as well as his departure from games. It is very unfortunate when those in the game industry have to deal with the day in and day out of abuse from consumers. Let’s hope that Fish is content with whatever he does next.
