Respawn claims Titanfall multiplayer is “their campaign”
The upcoming game by Respawn, Titanfall, is taking a bit of a risk. While most multiplayer shooters tend to have a single player campaign, the upcoming FPS from Respawn does not.
Mickey McCandlish, the game’s lead designer, explains the decision. “In our game, multiplayer is the campaign,” he states. “Every level has a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. You play as a Pilot – they’re soldiers with extra manoeuvrability – but the battlefield is also populated with AI grunts to fill out the scene, and talk, and bring Titanfall that grounded reality that AI characters have been bringing to single player for a long time.”
Mr. McCandlish went on to point out that Saving Private Ryan kicked off the early 2000s’ World War II obsession. In addition, Black Hawk Down helped start the modern military shooter. When asked what Titanfall utilizes for inspiration, he points to Prometheus and District 9.

Will the multiplayer be enough to see the game through, or will people rate it lower simply because it lacks a single player campaign?
