The news of Sony shutting down the online servers for multiplayer-only game MAG has prompted one fan to start a petition for developer Zipper Interactive to add bots so it can be played offline.
The 256-player PlayStation 3 game will be rendered obsolete as of January 2014 as part of a series of server closures by Sony.
“Ever since its announcement,” the petition’s creator Alexander Nuss wrote, “MAG has had a special fan base.” “Sure, it may not have been as big of a title as predicted, but it still sees players online everyday.”
“When the announcement of the servers shutting down hit, it felt like a game we purchased was being taken away from us. Many have even purchased MAG recently, only to learn it was a waste of money, because they were essentially renting the game until January.”
“If Bot support was added to the game, you could continue to sell it on the PlayStation Store, AND players who have purchased it can continue to enjoy it. Sure, bots aren’t as fun as actually playing with real people, but it is better than watching the case sit on my shelf, collecting dust.”
At the time of this writing, the petition has 52 signatures.
