Ever wanted motion controls in Battlefiel 4? Like it or not, it is happening.
In the latest issue of Game Informer magazine (issue 244), DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson revealed that while motion controls “does not make sense” for the type of game Battlefield 4 is, they are using it in “other places where it will make sense.”
We have a pretty pragmatic view [on Kinect 2]…Instead of just trying to tick all the boxes of features you can do with new hardware, we look at what actually adds value [for] our players.
Troeddson adds you need to build a “different kind of shooter” for motion controls to make sense in an FPS game.
When you look at the kind of games that we build – or Battlefield at least – it is a first-person shooter that is very much about skill. Input is really important. You need to have very precise control over what’s going on, and trying to do something like that with motion control input does not make sense – not if you want to keep the same kind of formula of the game as we [have] now. You’d need to build a different kind of shooter.
For now, it’s not known how Kinect will interact with BF4 or if the same feature will be present in the Xbox 360 version.
Will Kinect be used for menu navigation? Throwing grenades or knifing? We can’t say for sure but color us intrigued.
How would you implement Kinect in BF4 given the chance?
