PS4: DualShock 4 “Lightbar” can’t be turned off
Have you seen the new DualShock 4 controller for the PS4? If so, chances are you’ve noticed that there’s a glowing thing behind the controller. It’s mostly used to interact with the optional (and sold separately) PlayStation Eye, cue in-game signals to the player (low health will make the bar appear red, etc.), and as well as to let users know what player number they’re assigned to.
Unfortunately, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that the light emanating from it cannot be turned off regardless if the game will use the PlayStation Eye or not.
@yosp Can I turn off the lightbar on the DS4 so the battery lasts longer?

This can be a problem when you’re one of the many people who prefer gaming in a dark room and the lightbar glow bounces off your TV or other reflective surface. But ultimately, it’s a minor quibble that I think can be solved by using some electric tape or other material.
