Cross-play between next-gen consoles and PC has been a thing today. PlanetSide 2, an free-to-play MMO that will be released on PlayStation 4, is one of those games that struggles with cross-platform play.
Speaking with News10, SOE’s Adam Clegg said, “[PS4 players] are going to be on separate servers right now. PC players will still have their servers that we have up and running right now and then we’ll create PlayStation 4 servers for the PlanetSide 2 players.”
This means that cross-platform play won’t be available on launch but it’s still a possibility for the future.
“We really want players to have the same experience. We don’t want the PS4 players to have something different than the PC players,” Clegg added.
I don’t think we ever saw cross-platforming at it’s full potential for now, and it really would be nice for a developer to step up and do this.
