Namco Bandai announce ‘Tales of Xillia 2’ for Western audiences, a month before the original is released
Namco Bandai have announced that Tales of Xillia 2 will be coming as a PS3 exclusive in 2014, a month before the original has even been released.
The announcement was made this weekend at the Japan Expo in Paris with the added bonus that those players with save files from Tales of Grace f and the first Tales of Xillia will get exclusive bonus items for the game. Although the original came out in Japan in 2011, it is not released in Europe and North America until early next month.
The Tales series now stands at 14 games, with 8 of them being localized for western audiences and has sold over 13 million units worldwide which makes the announcement of the game somewhat expected, though the swift turnaround for worldwide audiences is to be applauded. The game will be available across Europe and Australasia in 2014, the company say.
As Ni No Kuni has shown, there is a strong appetite for traditional JRPG’s in the west, provided that they are localized well. With a branching narrative, and a promised strengthening of the originals battle system, this is definitely one to look out for
