Ryan Davis, Giant Bomb co-founder, former GameSpot editor, and podcast host, passed away on July 3, a few days after he got married. He was 34.
Davis’ death was announced on Giant Bomb. His family and colleagues have not announced a cause of death.
Davis was born June 4, 1979. He began his career at GameSpot in 2000, and eventually left eight years later to co-found Giant Bomb with former GameSpot colleague Jeff Gerstmann. He made frequent appearances on the site’s video content, and hosted Giant Bomb’s popular podcast the Giant Bombcast every week.
The games industry community poured out support for Davis today on Twitter after hearing the news.
In the post on Giant Bomb, Matthew Rorie, Giant Bomb produce manager wrote, “He had an unconventional type of kindness that expressed itself more strongly the longer one knew him, and despite his teasing nature, he always managed to make his close friends feel loved when his attention turned towards you.”
“In the end though it was always the laugh that grabbed us,” former Giant Bomb web designer Dave Snider wrote in a eulogy. “A great guffaw of wind which knocked down any walls or awkwardness between strangers. You of course were always the funniest one in the room, everyone knew it and no one debated it, but your real gift was making those around you feel like partners in the joke. A member of a team.”
