Club Nintendo hacked, 23,000 Japan accounts compromised.
Our friends at CVG informed us of a successful hack into the Club Nintendo website. Or, to be more accurately, they’ve informed us that Nintendo has confirmed more than 23,000 successful hacks into the website in the past month.
Nintendo confirmed that full names, addresses (both home and email), and phone numbers were compromised. They went on to state that, “”this only affects the Japanese Club Nintendo and is not an international issue”.
In an attempt to protect thier users that live in the region, Nintendo has reset the passwords and emailed users with requests to create new ones.
Nintendo detailed the hacking attempts. It began on June 9, but remained completely undetected until July 2. During their investigation, Nintendo discovered that more than 23,000 unauthorised log-ins were successful, though 15 million attempts were made between the dates.
The company is currently looking to strengthen security, though this is but one in a string of attacks on game websites.
Will they be able to implement security that can thwart any new attackers (for the time)?
