Ubisoft admits member information stolen in Watch Dogs-style attack
Ubisoft have confirmed that a security breach has occurred on their site and warned members to change their passwords.
In an email sent out to all Ubisoft account holders the company has said that, “We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorised access to some of our online systems.” This has been confirmed on the Ubisoft support website where they have answered a number of questions.
They also detailed what information was compromised, “The intruder was able to access account data including user names, email addresses and encrypted password,” though they confirmed that no payment details are held on the server and so are unaffected. They declined to go into further detail about the attack by saying, “We can’t go into specifics for security reasons.”
The support page was updated on Friday, though some members have only got the emails confirming this today, raising the question of when did the attack take place? We posed this question to them on Twitter, though at the time of writing they had yet to get back to us.
Ironically one of Ubisoft’s next big games is Watch Dogs where users will be attempting to hijack information via hacking.
