Xbox executive clarifies quote about “meaningless” next-gen specs
Albert Penello, Microsoft’s product planning manager, has clarified comments he made insinuating that discussion based around the PS4 and Xbox One’s specs were, “meaningless.”
Writing on NeoGAF Penello said, “I’m not diminishing Sony’s performance claims and I wasn’t trying to be arrogant or dismissive.” He also went on to explain that, “Nobody knows the specifics of how the machines are architected or if there may be bottlenecks in one system or accelerators in another that change the impact of the published specs.”
Penello also stressed that the interview with OXM which ran the original comments was, “done after our launch event, and prior to E3.” In that interview Penello seemed to imply that consumers were only interested in the games, and that Sony’s technical announcements had little value.
In attempting to get his message out more clearly he went on to say, “Games on both systems looked awesome,” but admitted, “I appreciate that while the words I used may were probably worth some scrutiny, I do appreciate that some of you got what I was trying to say.”
