New Kinect won’t work with Windows.
In what some may view as a somewhat shocking announcement (brought to our attention by our friends at Destructoid today), Microsoft confirmed that the upcoming Xbox One’s Kinect won’t be compatible with computers.
The original Kinect’s support for the platform perhaps caused several people to inherently expect that the new version that will be bundled with Microsoft’s new console to feature the same support. Considering that it will be an integrated part of the upcoming console, however, it could be seen as counterproductive to allow it to be taken off, essentially leaving the console as little more than a brick.
This isn’t to say that PCs won’t have a version of Kinect, however. Microsoft went on to announce that a new version of Kinect designed specifically for Windows is in the works and should be available soon.
Will this new Kinect be put to good use by PC gamers and modders? Or will it sit as an entertaining, but ultimately useless peripheral?
