Australia refuses to classify Saints Row IV.

Australia refuses to classify Saints Row IV.

Kotaku reported today that Saints Row IV is the first game in Australia that has fallen short of a revised adults-only rating in Australia. What does this mean? That the game is essentially banned in Australia.

The rating, which was introduced last year, has seen over a dozen games receive it, however the newest game in the Saints Row franchise fell short of the guidelines for even an adult-only title.

Said Australia’s Classification Board, “In the Board’s opinion, Saints Row IV, includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context. In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines.”

Will this actually stop any Australian that wishes to play the game? Or will this so-called ban, in fact, encourage more people in the country to play it just to see why it was refused classification?
