Over the weekend, several World of Warcraft players had their accounts stolen and lost thousands of gold, the game’s in-game currency, through the mobile auction house. Blizzard has confirmed an increase in stolen accounts, and has temporarily taken down the mobile auction house.
Blizzard is sending notifications out to players who were affected by the attacks and who don’t use a Blizzard Authenticator, a device that requires users to input a random code when they log in. It’s unclear why Blizzard isn’t notifying players with an Authenticator, because multiple users with one have also reported losing gold.
Blizzard recommends players read through its security tips to decrease their risk of being hacked.
