Well, Microsoft dropped the always-online thingy a few days ago, but it seems that a few developers still implement this “feature” in games. Today, Ubisoft announced that their latest two games The Division and The Crew will require a permanent internet connection in order to play.

Why? Well, they say that always-online “is a must” because something “is happening in this world all the time”. “It’s a non-stopping world, which is like life. You’re getting closer to life.” they said.

This means that this time always-online requirement will bring something new and exclusive to The Crew and The Division, or at least they claim so.

I think this is fine. If the game is like World of Warcraft and requires an internet connection to be experienced, that is good. If the game just requires an internet connection for no reason, that’s silly.
