Gunpoint creator quits job and decides to make games full-time due to success.
Kotaku reported today that Gunpoint (a stealth/hacking/spy comedy game) has become a near instant success, recouping the development costs in a mere 64 seconds.
That said, the entire cost consisted of a purchase of Game Maker 8, so it may not be saying very much alone. Of course, Francis, the creator of Gunpoint goes on to share that the game did so well that he decided to quit his job and create games full-time.
Said Francis, “More amazingly, I can do it with total creative freedom. There’s really no pressure for my next thing to make a particular amount of money, so I can do whatever I think will be most exciting. It also means I can afford to keep being nice. I didn’t let anyone pay for Gunpoint until I was ready to put a free demo out, so everyone would have a way to make sure it ran OK on their system and that they liked it before giving me any money.”
Will Francis continue to make such successful games?
