Dead Space is still alive, but not in development, EA confirm
EA have confirmed that the Dead Space franchise is still alive despite the fact that Dead Space 4 isn’t currently in development.
After Dead Space 3 under-performed in the charts, there were rumors that the franchise had been binned with developer Visceral closed down.
According to Eurogamer Patrick Söderlund, EA Games Label boss, denied that Dead Space had been canned but admitted that the reports that Dead Space 4 was in pre-production were wide of the mark saying, “Is that team working on a Dead Space game today? No they’re not.”
Söderlund went on to say, “Will there be another Dead Space game? Who knows? Have we killed it? No, of course not.” In February it was reported that EA deemed sales of fewer than 5 million to be unacceptable to continue a series, a figure that the last game was unable to achieve.
Eurogamer also points to a VideoGamer.com report which commented on the troubled development of Dead Space 3. Several key elements seem to have been changed in order to allow for the micro-transactions that were less than welcomed amongst fans.
