PlayStation 4 pulls ahead of Xbox One in pre-orders (UK).
Though Microsoft’s upcoming console had been leading in the pre-order war up until yesterday, a report posted by MCV reveals that Sony’s console has turned the tides.
The site states, “Having yesterday been told by Amazon that Xbox One was tracking narrowly ahead of PS4 in the Amazon pre-order charts, this morning has brought with it a change of fortunes.” Indeed, this appears to be the case, as their “Amazon’s Videogames Best Sellers” chart now shows the PlayStation 4 occupying the top slot while Microsoft’s console has fallen to third.
What brought about this change? Well, it would be hard to pinpoint a single cause. That said, the Sony press conference yesterday likely had quite an impact. With Sony assuring that the PS4 will have no DRM (as well as no forced online checks to continue playing single player games), they gave gamers more of a reason to continue supporting their console over Microsoft’s.
Will the turnaround cause Microsoft to change their DRM strategy, or will the PS4 dominate the market with used game support?
