It’s that time of year again. Lots of developers and publishers get together and show off their shiny new toys. That’s right, Nerdrection 2013…err I mean the Electronics Entertainment Expo, or E3 as it’s more commonly called. This morning (6/9/2013) I hopped on a train and made an arduous trek down to the illustrious city of Los Angeles for the first time.
Tonight we went off to see what Disney was up to which turned out to be quite nice, despite being Disney. The crowd was treated to free popcorn and soda or water which was quickly devoured…at least by moi. Finally once the event started the usual suit and tie came up, chatted a bit and we were finally treated to something special: the first 37 minutes of the Monsters University. Generally with sequels/prequels you don’t expect much unless it’s Star Wars or Harry Potter, but this was one of those rare gems that you could really appreciate. Unfortunately Disney did not allow cell phones in the event so no video for you dear readers. Sorry! More suit and tie jibber jabber followed as they segued into The Lone Ranger. The audience also received a sneak preview of the first bit of that movie as well, but it wasn’t as long as the Monsters University preview. Again, it seemed like a good movie but the guy in front kept bragging about it being a blockbuster hit. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch bud.
Finally, what Ryan Bates, our in-house Disney nerd, was waiting for: Disney Infinity. For those of you who don’t know what Disney Infinity is, it’s basically Skylanders, Minecraft, an FPS, and Disney, all in one neat package. We were able to try the game out after the event while drinking some adult beverages. Personally I think Disney has a money maker, if they are able to bring justice to all that they want to incorporate to their game. Parents, watch your wallets because Disney will definitely suck your kids pretty deep into this.
