Cryptic opens a new studio in Seattle that will focus on improving Champions Online.
According to an interview conducted by Gamasutra yesterday, Cryptic Studios is opening a new Seattle branch that will focus on improving Champions Online.
Cryptic Studios CEO Jack Emmert and Russell Williams, co-founder of Flying Lab, answered several questions via an email Q&A.
The first questions asked were how long the new studio has been operating and how many people were involved. Mr. Emmert answered that Cryptic North (the new studio’s name) talks began in 2012. Mr. Williams added that they went “Full speed ahead” in 2013, but had been collaborating for years. Mr. Williams added that there are currently 12 people in Cryptic North.
Another question that many had wondered was whether Cryptic North would work on projects independently. Mr. Williams replied, “A definite possibility. Right now we are focusing on polishing and improving Champs. Longer term, who knows?’ Mr. Emmert added that, “Absolutely we want to grow the studio to be more than it is. Realistically, all growth is contingent upon success. Right now our games are incredibly successful, so we’re growing and that means expansion North and South.”

Was the decision to add a Seattle studio a wise one?
