Xbox One will not support renting or loaning games at launch

The Xbox One will allow users to give a game to someone else once, but it won’t let them borrow it. This, in turn, restricts renting games too, a popular way people like to play games, using services like GameFly and Redbox.

“Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch,” the Redmond, WA-based company wrote on one of its policy pages released today, “but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.”

I’ve contacted various game renting outlets, including Redbox, GameFly, and Goozex.

A GameFly representative refused to comment when I asked if it had any plans to partner with Microsoft to continue its rental service: “We are aware of Microsoft’s recent statement regarding used console games but don’t have any comment at this time.”

I will update this post as soon as I hear back from more outlets.
