Sawaki Takeyasu secures rights to El Shaddai’s IP
As confirmed today by Kotaku, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron‘s character designer and director, Sawaki Takeyasu, has successfully secured the rights to the game’s IP.
This acquisition, according to the official release, “entails prequel, sequel and all other derivative rights of the existing game.” It goes on to state that, “Crim will work with the Entertainment industry to develop a potential El Shaddai business moving forward.”
For those unaware, El Shaddai draws its inspiration from the Book of Enoch (from the Old Testament) and puts you in the role of Enoch. You are called to heaven, and given a rather important mission; you need to round up the 7 fallen angels in order to stop the flood that will destroy all of mankind.
El Shaddai was something of a cult hit in Japan, spawning clothes and even being highly praised for the artwork.
Did Sawaki Takeyasu deserve the rights? I personally see no reason he wouldn’t have, but what do you think, readers?
