SMT IV tops sales chart within first week of release in Japan
As reported by Geek Gamerz, Atlus’ new entry in the ever-popular, if somewhat niche (at least in North America) role-playing game series has taken the first place in Japan’s sales charts. Shin Megami Tensei IV sold 188,562 units, beating out both Kamen Rider (128,659 units sold) and Resident Evil: Revelations (102,673 units sold).
The series has always placed an emphasis on talking to and recruiting demons, and the newest entry is no exception. You take on the role of a member of the Samurai, which is an elite demon-exterminating unit. You will encounter many demons as you progress, however not all need to be destroyed, as you can, if you’re diplomatic enough, convince many to join you.
Shin Megami Tensei IV is set to release in the United States on July 16. Will it capture the number one best seller spot within the first week of release over here as well? Or will it be displaced by another game?
