Double Fine launches Kickstarter for Massive Chalice, asking for 725K

DoubleFineMassiveChaliceLogoDouble Fine has launched a Kickstarter for a fantasy, turn-based strategy game called Massive Chalice for Windows PC, Mac, and Linux.

The San Francisco-based developer is looking for $725,000 via crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

“We’re inspired by classic tactical strategy games like X-COM, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, as well as Game of Thrones’ array of noble families,” the Kickstarter page reads, “With these influences in mind we’re creating an epic, replayable turn-based tactics game where you train generations of heroes to repel a demonic invasion.”

Massive Chalice will be a rogue-like, turn-based strategy game running on the 3D Buddha Engine, the same engine that powered Brutal Legend.

The game will be lead by Iron Brigade Project Lead Brad Muir.

The reward tiers suggest the game will be out in September 2014.

If successfully funded, 2 Player Productions, the team behind the Double Fine Adventure documentary, will also shoot a documentary for Massive Chalice.

Double Fine will attend Horizon, the “alternative E3 press conference” next month, along with Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP developer Capybara Games and LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule. The event will be livestreamed by MOCAtv, the YouTube channel of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

In February 2011, Double Fine launched a Kickstarter for adventure game Broken Age which was successfully funded. Broken Age is currently in development for Windows PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Linux, and is aimed to release sometime in September.
