Xbox One: Reveal met with indie disappointment
Following the reveal of the Xbox One yesterday, the media and gamers alike were a buzz with mixed reactions. Some felt excited just to have a new console, others felt extremely let down. Among the more vocal of the disappointed, were indie developers, after news broke that you will not be able to self-publish games on the Xbox One.
This news comes to pass as a huge let down. Several reports through out the 360’s life space, indicated that Microsoft was not only difficult to work with, but getting indie titles onto the system was more trouble than it was worth. In fact, the highly restrictive policies of the Xbox One were so toxic, a large number of indie devs expressed their critical thoughts over the past 24 hours on Twitter.
Some of the bigger names include:
Tim Schafer (Double Fine): “Can’t self publish…..Booooo”
Phil Fish (Fez): “Microsoft doesn’t care about indie developers”
Brian Provinciano (Retro City): “No self-publishing….hinders developers”
The Tweets are still roaring, and more are striking back with a vengeance. Destructoid was good enough to compile some of the loudest criticisms, which you can view here.
