No self-publishing on Xbox One

Indie developers still probably won’t be too keen on the Xbox One.

Shacknews reports that the Xbox One won’t let indies self-publish their games. However, the PS3, PS4, Vita and Wii U already allow developers to self-publish games or will allow it when they release.

Matt Booty, the general manager of Redmond Game Studios and Platforms, said that the company will “explore new business models and new ways of surfacing content,” but that “Microsoft Studios is a publisher that works with a wide range of partners, as do a lot of other people, to bring digital content to the box.”

Currently, Xbox Live Indie Games is the only area that developers can self-publish on the 360. It’s unknown if the system will be on Xbox One and, even if it is, if it will be utilized better than it currently is.
